ABI Report: Funding Is Top Challenge for Africa’s Blockchain Start-Ups

The Africa Blockchain Institute’s 2022 Report focuses on blockchain ecosystems in Egypt, Ghana, Rwanda and Zimbabwe. The Algorand Foundation-funded report will be released next Wednesday.

According to a survey conducted by the Africa Blockchain Institute (ABI), lack of funding is the biggest challenge faced by blockchain start-ups in Africa today. Coming in at a close second were misconceptions around blockchain technology, followed by regulatory challenges in third place.

The survey was conducted by ABI in 2022 and is part of a larger report that will be released on 21 September 2022. Other subjects covered in the report include the educational background of founders, country profiles and the current development stage of blockchain start-ups in Africa.

The annual report, now in its second edition, was funded by a grant from the Algorand Foundation and took six months to research. The countries focused on in this edition are Egypt, Ghana, Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

The Africa Blockchain Institute is a Rwanda-based blockchain think tank. It specialises in blockchain education, evidence-based research and high-end deployment solutions aimed at digital transformation in Africa.

An online launch event for the report will be held at 6PM EAT on 21 September 2022. Those who wish to attend can register here.
