Introducing African Crypto Grant & Venture Funding Data

It’s no secret that raising funds is a major pain point for projects building in the African crypto ecosystem. As was covered in our recent article on the upcoming report by the Africa Blockchain Institute, lack of funding is identified as the biggest challenge by blockchain start-ups in Africa today – even ahead of regulatory matters.

As the popular saying goes, you can’t fix what you don’t measure. And so here at ACR we are excited to be launching a database for grant and venture funding received by projects operating in the African blockchain/crypto/web3 ecosystem.

In terms of how we foresee this data being used, we hope that:

  • Builders from this ecosystem will be able to research the pathways that similarly situated projects have followed to get funding.

  • When designing their fundraising strategy, builders will leverage the announcements to create lists of organisations that have funded projects from the Africa ecosystem in the past.

  • Investors that are not as familiar with the Africa ecosystem can use the data to gain a picture of the investment landscape.

  • Those conducting research will be able to gain early insight into up-and-coming projects.

The exercise of aggregating this data is nowhere near finished and we look forward to continuing to build out the database into a force to be reckoned with. In the meantime, we are pleased to share the 180+ funding rounds that we have aggregated so far.
